Why won't the pod fit into the top compartment?

Make sure you have fully opened the sliding shutter, hearing it click at the end of its movement, only then will it be possible to insert the pod. Also check that the pod collection drawer is not full of pods that have already been used, in which case it will be necessary to empty it.
